Ear Cleaning for Long Haired Dogs
This miniature sheepdog had an overgrown coat (below) that I had to shave off in order to remove the tangles. His eyes are so cute now that you can see them! (above)
Like many dogs that grow hair and should have regular haircuts, this guy needed the inside of his ears plucked and cleaned. Ear powder makes the job easier, and a homemade ear solution of 50% rubbing alcohol and 50% white vinegar works well. Just mix it in a plastic or glass container with a lid. Use a paper towel and dip in the solution and gently wipe the inside of the ear. If you remove a black discharge, clean ears daily until no more black is removed. Then, clean weekly as a maintenance. Keep the solution at room temperature in a sealed container.
